The Reno Fire Department is reminding people not to burn weeds within city limits, as a homeowner burning weeds in southwest Reno Wednesday afternoon had the fire get away. Firefighters went to the home in the 2700 block of West Lakeridge Shores just before 5 p.m. The home was briefly threatened by the fire, though fire crews quickly knocked it down, the fire department said. The fire was less than an eighth of an acre. Burning within Reno city limits is illegal without a permit and burning was closed in the unincorporated area of Washoe County. Last Saturday there was another brush fire in the area of Webster and Sharon ways in which a quarter acre burned on a hillside. That fire was also caused by open burning.
