VIDEO: Several Washoe Valley residents showed up to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Board meeting on Tuesday January 21, 2020 to tell the board how they felt about the reduction in fire protection. The move cuts the number of stations in half for residents.
There have been two major fires in the area in the past ten years, so their anxiety is warranted.
Fires in the Washoe Valley are not uncommon.
With two fire stations in the area, crews are able to respond rather quickly and put out the flames.
But according to Chief Charlie Moore from Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, most fire calls, 75% of them, which include medical calls, happen in the North Valleys where our population is growing.
