Washoe County is working to build a new permanent vaccination site. Construction on the site has already started near the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. The health district will use it for both testing and vaccinations once it is finished. County officials say this site could be critical in the fight against the virus, especially when it comes to giving out booster shots. "We fully know that some sort of booster shot will have to be done but we don’t know the frequency. We've also heard Moderna is looking at that. We'll also use our infrastructure in the fall for additional flu vaccinations,” says James English. He says investing in the site now will allow them to quickly ramp up vaccinations if necessary. There's no exact date for when the new site will open.
