Sam Scheller is the CEO of non-emergency ambulance provider Guardian Elite Medical Services. As his EMTs help transfer patients in between hospitals, he's noticing a change in the past few weeks. "We’re are seeing a lot more COVID-related transports," he said. Via weekly hospital coordination calls, he's also heard from other providers that the situation the past few weeks is getting more severe. "Things have definitely gotten much busier," he said. "Through our hospital coordination calls, hospitals are at or near capacity." Eyeing surges across the country, including neighboring California, he says plans are underway for if and when our situation gets worse. "We are actively looking at what that looks like if we do need to transfer patients from one hospital to another on a mass level," Scheller said. It's a growing concern as Nevada is continuing to see high COVID test positivity rates, hospitalizations, daily cases and deaths.
