Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday afternoon to a structure fire in the 1500 block of Rand Avenue. Firefighters knocked it down within minutes of arriving. The fire was called in at around 4 p.m. Heavy smoke was visible from a second floor apartment, according to first responders on scene. According to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief, the fire started in a recliner. The cause is unknown at this time. Two occupants of the apartment unit have been displaced. Red Cross has been contacted.
