PHOTO: Warren Engine Co., No. 1 celebrated 159 years as one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in the west at its annual meeting and dinner on June 17.
Serving on a volunteer basis since 1863, Warren Engine Co., successfully protected Carson City residents until a paid staff, now Carson City Fire Department, was formed in 1963.
Although no longer active firefighters, the members remain active to preserve the historical significance of the department and the Carson Fire Museum. They meet on the second Thursday evening of the month at Station 1 on Stewart Street. They hold fundraisers and donate to the fire department for needed supplies and equipment.
Two members celebrating 50 years in the company are Joe Pearson and Paul Webster.
