VIDEO/PHOTOS: Firefighters with the City of Las Vegas showed off what can happen if the proper safety precautions aren't taken while deep-frying a turkey.
The city and other organizations like the Red Cross held their annual deep fry turkey demonstrations Monday morning, highlighting the dangers of preparing the popular Thanksgiving dish.
An estimated two thousand Thanksgiving day fires are reported yearly and cause an average of five deaths, 25 injuries, and $21 million in property loss.
So here are some safety tips:
Do not overfill the fryer
Use it outdoors, away from anything flammable
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby
Make sure the turkey is fully defrosted before putting it in the fryer
