Utica Police have charged two juveniles with arson in connection with a fire that caused severe damage to a Dollar Tree this past weekend. Emergency crews responded to the Dollar Tree on Mohawk Street on May 12 for reports of a fire. The Utica Fire Department battled the blaze with assistance from the Oneida County Department of Emergency Services and additional assistance from the Vernon, Whitesboro, and New Hartford Fire Departments. As a result of the fire, the Dollar Tree suffered from extensive inventory loss and severe damage to its retail space. Other retail locations in the plaza also reported inventory loss or damage. Witnesses told police that two juveniles were responsible for starting the fire inside the store.
