Village of Massena, firefighters union reach contract agreement

The village of Massena and Massena Permanent Firefighters Local 2220 have signed off on a new three-year contract. The agreement, which runs from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2023, calls for 2 percent raises each of the three years. Under the new agreement, the starting salary would increase from $14.79 an hour to $15.09 an hour for 2020-21, $15.39 in 2021-22 and $15.70 in 2022-23. In addition, effective June 1, 2021, each member will receive a one-time payment of $250. Effective June 1, 2022, they’ll receive a one-time payment of $400. The agreement also covers increases in insurance premiums — 7 percent the first year, 7.5 percent the second year and 8 percent the third year. Effective June 1, 2019, the employee contribution for a single-person plan would be $13.83 a week. That would increase to an estimated $16 a week effective June 1, 2020 and an estimated $18.43 effective June 1, 2021.
