A two-alarm fire tore through a home in the Lake Carmel section of Kent overnight after a few inches of snow fell throughout the region. The blaze began around midnight in a house on Chappaqua Road. The home was heavily damaged. Lake Carmel firefighters forced their way into the flame-filled home and dragged hose lines through thick smoke. There are no fire hydrants in the area, so water had to be trucked in on tankers as temperatures dipped into the high 20s. Firefighters from Brewster, Carmel, Kent, Patterson and Putnam Valley also helped battle the blaze. Firefighters cleared the scene around 4 a.m. There was no immediate word on what might have caused the fire. The Putnam County Fire Investigation team was called in to investigate.
