One person is dead after fire destroyed an apartment building at a complex not too far from Route 85 in Slingerlands on Thursday morning. Investigators say the person is an adult who lived on the second floor, but they won't release the person's gender yet. The body was being taken to Ellis Hospital for an autopsy. Police and firefighters responded to calls of a fire located at building 26 of the Meadowbrook Apartment complex shortly after 2 a.m. Neighbors say the building was engulfed in flames within 20 minutes. A big problem was a gas line that fueled the flame for four hours before National Grid could get it turned off. Red Cross officials say that they are providing aid to about 20 people.
