The Niagara County Legislature accepted a $2.1 million grant, approved by the Department of Homeland Security, to enhance radio communication for county firefighters.
With the funding, Niagara County will buy new P-25 compliant portable radios for all partner fire companies.
“Radios are as important to our firefighters as good protective clothing when it comes to entering a burning building to put out a fire or more importantly to save a life,” said Niagara County Legislator, David Godfrey. “The dangers when inside a raging inferno are no less than life-threatening and can happen without warning, possibly trapping the firefighter.”
