Firefighters were called to a fire at a multi-family home in Schenectady early Thursday morning. The call for a fire at a multi-family home on Robinson Street came in around 4 a.m. The building is split into two homes. Firefighters say the call came from the person living on the second floor. Firefighters were able to extinguish the heavy flames within the hour. Nobody was injured in the fire. Firefighters say the home is not a total loss, but there is a lot of damage on the second floor. Fire crews say the cold weather made it difficult for firefighters who were spraying water on the home. Crews are salting the area. The codes department says the residents must leave the home. The building will be assessed within the next day. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
