Two-time former West Nyack Fire Chief George Drescher, who served as a member of the department for 44 years, died on Saturday night. He was 70 years old.
Before joining the West Nyack Fire Department, Drescher was a member of Congers and Haverstraw fire departments. He served as fire chief for West Nyack twice, from 1987 to 1988 and again from 2007 to 2008.
He worked as a Rockland County Deputy Fire Coordinator, a volunteer position, since 1992. Drescher served many roles with multiple organizations. He was a staple in the community, not just in Clarkstown and West Nyack, but throughout Rockland, Orange and Westchester counties, director of Rockland Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear said.
He was most recently working on developing a drone program for the West Nyack Fire Department, Kear said.
