A small fire damaged a shrine on the grounds of the Alba House in Meiers Corners on Wednesday morning. Firefighters were called at 9:29 a.m. on a report of an outdoor fire on the property at 2187 Victory Blvd. near Ingram Avenue, according to a spokesman for the FDNY. The blaze was at the Wayside Shrine near the Mother Mary Chapel. The fire extended to the exterior of an unoccupied building before it was doused by firefighters, who left the scene around 10 a.m., the FDNY spokesman said. No injuries were reported, the FDNY spokesman said. Wood that held up the statues was damaged in the blaze. A prayer card and lit candle are the suspected cause of the fire.
