PHOTO: Six residents escaped serious harm early Wednesday as an overnight fire engulfed their home on Taylor Street, according to the Pittsfield Fire Department.
One of the residents was awake at the time and alerted others to evacuate. One tenant suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to Berkshire Medical Center.
About 12:08 a.m., firefighters arrived to find a fully involved fire at the rear of the home, a 2 1/2-story, wood-frame structure at 79 Taylor St., according to the statement from Deputy Chief Neil Myers. A 20-pound propane tank also was on fire.
A second alarm was called and all on-duty firefighters responded to the scene with five engines and a ladder truck.
Firefighters struggled to draw an ample supply of water, and had to run additional hydrant lines, the statement said.
