Some five people were displaced from their homes shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday when fire tore through the residence at 119 North Hamilton Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. First arriving firefighters found heavy fire conditions coming from the second floor of the two-story, two-family house, according to Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson. Poughkeepsie firefighters put three lines into service to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading to the neighboring building at 121 North Hamilton Street. Arlington and Fairview firefighters assisted at the scene, along with medics from Mobile Life Support Services and a crew from Central Hudson Gas & Electric. Representatives from the Red Cross were called in to assist four or five adults that were displaced as a result of the fire.
