Four civilians and three firefighters were injured in a blaze that ignited in the basement of a two-story New Brighton home early Saturday morning.
The fire, in a home at 184 Benziger Street, was put under control at about 2:44 a.m. by a team of 12 city Fire Department (FDNY) units consisting of 60 firefighters, said an FDNY spokesperson.
The firefighters and civilians injured in the blaze were taken to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, and Richmond University Hospital, West Brighton and treated for non-life threatening injuries, said the spokesperson. It is unclear if the civilians injured in the blaze resided in the home or were inside at the time the fire ignited.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, said the FDNY spokesperson.
