The American Red Cross will be assisting two adults and a dog following an early morning fire in the City of Utica. It happened after 4:30 a.m. Thursday, on Neilson Street. Initial 911 reports said there were people inside of the home. Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll tells NEWSChannel 2 that both individuals made it out. A dog was rescued from the back of the residence. Chief Ingersoll says crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames on the first floor which quickly traveled to the entire second floor. Buildings on each side of the home were also damaged from the heat and flames. It took a little under an hour and a half for crews to get it under control. The home has been declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
