Eleven people escaped an apartment building fire on Portland Avenue early Saturday morning. The Rochester Fire Department responded to an 11 unit apartment building fire around 12:45 a.m. on Portland Avenue. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to one apartment however, other apartments received smoke damage. Eleven people were home at the time of the fire but all were able to evacuate safely. One firefighter was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The Red Cross is on the scene and is assistant tenants. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
