A house fire in the Lake Carmel section of Kent this morning required all hands on deck to knock down the flames, which broke out in a neighborhood without a fire hydrant nearby. Around 9:30 a.m. Lake Carmel firefighters were dispatched to 132 Longfellow Drive, after the mailman reported smoke coming out from the house. The homeowner was not at home when the fire began but he arrived to find many firefighters battling the blaze. Assistant Fire Chief Justyn Lewis found smoke coming from the eves and roof of the house upon his arrival, and requested mutual aid from Carmel, Kent, Brewster, Patterson, Mahopac and East Fishkill. Water was also trucked in on tanker trucks since there were no fire hydrants nearby.
