The Utica Common Council praised the Utica Fire Department for their hard work fighting the Charlestown Mall Fire at Wednesday night's common council meeting.
It has been almost a week since the fire, and Chief Ingersoll spoke about how firefighters are still putting out some hot spots at Wednesday's meeting.
Members of the common council say the Charlestown Fire was the largest fire in the Utica city limits in 50 years.
Chief Ingersoll says with what was surrounding the Charlestown building, it's amazing how firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to nearby buildings.
"The goal was to do a sweep of the general area, throughout the early hours of that fire, we had softball size embers glowing through the air. We had people monitoring the businesses close by, we had some spot fires at the top of the cabvi building, bus garages that were from Birnie Bus." said Ingersoll.
