Longtime distinguished Cohoes fire captain set to retire

The Uniformed Firefighters of Cohoes is set to celebrate the long and distinguished career of Captain James Fennen as he walks out after his final shift on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 a.m. Captain Fennen, a lifelong Cohoes resident, is completing his final tour of duty this week. Captain Fennen unofficially started his career at the ripe old age of 13, when he was made an Official Junior Firefighter after spending his summer break working in and around the Central Avenue Fire Station. He officially joined the ranks in December of 1989, was promoted to Captain in 1996, and is retiring after 30 years of faithful service to residents of the City of Cohoes. In addition to serving the City of Cohoes, he also served his state and country for 22 years as a Firefighter in the New York Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
