Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a home on Sherman Street in the City of Rochester on Wednesday. The Rochester Fire Department responded to the area around 6:35 a.m. for the report of a fire in a home. “The residence was a 2 ½ story, three family dwelling. An extra company was requested in seeing that there were occupants attempting to exit the 1st floor apartment from which smoke was billowing,” officials said in a statement. Firefighters assisted two adults — one was a handicapped woman according to RFD — in exiting. Two other adults that were alerted by neighbors had exited another first floor apartment prior to RFD arrival. Two people were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation. It took firefighters 18 minutes to bring the fire under control.
