A mother described a dramatic escape from a fire that injured six people in Mariners Harbor on Monday morning.
About 60 firefighters and 12 units responded to the blaze, which was reported around 8:30 a.m. on the second story of a three-story, brick apartment building at 222 Union Ave, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS and emergency radio communications.
Four people were transported to area hospitals and two people refused medical attention. All are expected to recover from their injuries, the spokesman said. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour, at about 9:05 a.m., the spokesman said.
“It’s very unfortunate,” said Catherine, a mother of nine children, who declined to have her last name published.
