A massive fire broke out in Downtown Brooklyn Monday night, causing extensive damage to both a local cheesesteak shop and the offices of a major family service organization. First responders arrived on the scene at 2 Nevins St. just before 11:30 pm to find heavy fire conditions after an alleged explosion in the basement of the mixed-occupancy building, home to SCO Family of Services and the adjoining Tony Luke’s Philly Cheesesteaks. The explosion reportedly occurred in the basement of Tony Luke’s. Firefighters carried two victims out onto Nevins Street, near the corner of Flatbush and Fulton avenues, where paramedics administered live-saving aid before transporting them to the Burn Center at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell hospital in Manhattan. Their conditions were not immediately known Tuesday morning.
