Flames erupted from a six-story apartment building in Mount Eden Monday morning, injuring three civilians and two responding firefighters. The incident happened Monday morning on Townsend Avenue. Dozens of tenants were standing outside with their children and pets, some barefoot and in their pajamas, while FDNY crews worked to extinguish the fire. FDNY officials say flames were coming from the doorway of an apartment on the top floor. Inside, they found two men – one was able to get out on his own, the other needed to be rescued. Both men were taken to the hospital – one is in critical condition, the other is in serious condition. A third civilian suffered minor injuries. One of the two injured firefighters is also in serious condition with burns. The FDNY is probing the cause of the fire.
