The Utica Common Council passed an ordinance to increase the complement of the Utica Fire Department by 8 members if a SAFER grant from FEMA is applied for and awarded. SAFER stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response. The Common Council also passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Robert Palmieri to apply for the SAFER grant. The change in complement to the Utica Police Department was not brought up in Wednesday night's meeting.
