Five people rescued from Auburn fire, three hospitalized

Firefighters rescued five people from a house fire at 42 South Street in Auburn Friday evening. Three of the victims were taken to the hospital. According to the Auburn Fire Department, crews arrived at the scene at 11:05 PM. They discovered flames burning from two floors. Several firefighters extinguished visible flames from outside the building while others went inside for search and rescue. One of the victims was rescued from the second floor by firefighters Halverson and Lt. Burns. The South Street fire was Halverson's first fire. Several police officers helped Halverson and Lt. Burns bring the victim to the first floor where she received medical treatment. Several residents were treated for injuries on the scene. According to the release, additional ambulances were requested due to the number of people injured.
