VIDEO: 9-year-old Connor Race of Binghamton was presented with a New York State Senate Commendation Award. Race was selected as Visions Federal Credit Union’s most recent “Little Hero” for his contribution to the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Department. The award was presented by State Senator Fred Akshar. Last year, Race completed the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and is planning on participating this year as well. His family and some volunteers said Race is always helping others and dedicated to working hard at the fire station. Race struggles with Apraxia, a motor speech disorder that makes speaking difficult for children. According to his proud family, he has come a long way with the help of the other volunteers. “Whether you’re 9-years-old or you’re 90-years-old, the ability to give back to your community and leave it a little bit better than you found it is so critically important,” said Akshar.
