The Potsdam Fire Department is offering the public some tips about smoke alarms after responding to several discarded alarms that were found still beeping. Fire officials in Potsdam report that they have responded to numerous alarm reports in which firefighters located smoke alarms discarded in dumpsters or garbage bins. "The fire department would like to remind the public that when replacing smoke alarms or carbon monoxide alarms make sure to remove the battery, or if it is a detector with a sealed battery, to use the slider switch on the back of the alarm to deactivate the alarm," fire officials said.
