A mother and her adult son were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out at a home on Woodberry Road in New Hartford Tuesday morning. Fire officials say the fire started around 5:15 a.m. and firefighters had to rescue one of the residents who was asleep on the second floor where the fire appears to have started. According to the fire chief, the fire caused significant damage to the second floor and there is extensive smoke and water damage throughout the house. Both the 79-year-old mother and the 59-year-old son were sent to the hospital. The mother was treated and released and the son is in the SUNY Upstate Burn Center in critical condition, according to officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
