According to the Hampton Bays Fire Department, the "wind-driven" structure fire broke out at 7:02 p.m. at a home on Percy Place. Hampton Bays Fire Department engine crews made an "aggressive interior attack," stretching three hand lines into the building to extinguish the fire while search teams looked for occupants, officials said.
Search team found three dogs and two cats that were taken from the building. Hampton Bays Fire Department Capt. Greg Sikorski was outside and desperately tried to revive them; unfortunately they succumbed to smoke inhalation, fire officials said. No individuals were injured, officials said.
