A massive four-alarm fire in Queens early on Tuesday morning destroyed a commercial building and left two firefighters injured, Fire Department sources said. According to the FDNY, the blaze ignited just before 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 18 inside a one-story shipping supply store at 47-46 30th St. in Long Island City. The first arriving units encountered a light haze coming from the store’s roll down gates. After cutting through the gates, the firefighters were met with heavy fire and smoke conditions. Personnel were briefly withdrawn from the scene as propane canisters and other hazardous materials exploded inside. Hundreds of firefighters were called to the location. Several tower ladder units set up hose lines, pouring water down onto the fire from above. The injured firefighters were treated for minor ailments, it was reported.
