Firefighter Anthony Mauro, a 34-year-old FDNY member from Staten Island who was hailed for his courage and spirit, will be laid to rest on Thursday after a battle with cancer.
His passing was announced by the Uniformed Firefighters Association.
Mauro, a six-year FDNY veteran who was assigned to Engine 241/Ladder 109 in Brooklyn, succumbed to brain cancer on Jan. 27, according to the Brooklyn Reporter.
“He had a fight in him that most don’t, which is why his spirit will be with us forever. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and will continue to stand by and support them,” the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York said in a statement. “He touched many lives in his short time with the department at 34 years old.”
