VIDEO: On Monday, the Horseheads Fire Department held a ceremony to unveil a newly refurbished fire bell.
The event marked the kick off of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the forming of the Horseheads Fire Department.
Horseheads fire chief Art Sullivan says the bell is a symbol of the fire department and what stands behind it and says he is happy to see it back on display.
"To see it back, it means that all the past firemen, the things they have done for us and the community, so it very much symbolized, and every time you drive here by or come to the station, there's the bell for us," said Sullivan.
This summer, there will be a variety of events going on in conjunction with the anniversary including a waterball competition on July 7th at Thorne Street Park. On July 8th, there will be a parade through the village.
