PHOTOS: Brentwood and Islip fire departments extinguished a blaze in a vehicle that had burst into flames on the Southern State Parkway Monday night, officials said. According to Islip Fire Department officials, "numerous 911 calls" reported the fire around 10:30 p.m. as flames ravaged the Honda Accord on Southern State Parkway west of Islip Avenue. Officials told Patch that Brentwood Fire Department chief 3-2-30 arrived at the scene first, while Islip chiefs 30 and 31 arrived "shortly after." The driver of the vehicle reportedly pulled over when he saw his check engine light come on and the "engine caught fire shortly after," firefighters told Patch. Officials said the driver managed to evacuate the vehicle on his own and was not injured.
