Outside University of Cincinnati Medical Center Thursday afternoon, men and women of the Fayetteville Fire Department stood in unity, in support of fellow firefighter, Austin Caldwell.
"The community wants him back, we want him back," Fayetteville Fire Lt. Adam Dozier said. "People are coming just so they can stay and be here and show support so he's not alone, not by himself and so his family's not by themselves," firefighter Kris Woodward said.
Caldwell, 22, was flown to UC Wednesday morning. He was heading to work at the Monroe Township Fire Department just after 5:30 a.m.
Troopers said he was driving his Harley west on U.S. 50 in Jackson Township, Clermont County when he collided with a truck that was attempting to turn north on State Route 133.
"They did do surgery on him yesterday, and that went well, and he's just resting comfortably now," Woodward said.
Caldwell remained in the intensive care unit Thursday evening.
