Columbus firefighters and police did what they do best Friday: they rescued a group of Columbus kids. But it wasn't from a fire or a dangerous situation, firefighters and police led a group of donors who saved the eighth-grade trip to Chicago for Ridgeview Middle School students who were left without rooms or rides after a Cleveland-area tour company disappeared and went bankrupt. Firefighters made a $10,000 dollar donation, the Fraternal Order of Police donated $2,000, while teachers and classified employees of Columbus City Schools also made donations of up to $5,000 to help offset costs.
