The Toledo Fire and Rescue announced on Wednesday that they would not be able to send personnel in support of Hurricane Florence relief efforts. On Tuesday, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (EMA) contacted the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Special Operations Bureau requesting personnel and equipment to deploy to the Virginia area. Due to the large number of personnel that was needed for the mission, the fire department determined that they would not be able to support this initial request. "As much as we would like to help those being immediately impacted by Hurricane Florence our primary mission is to ensure that there is adequate staffing and resources in place to respond to all requests for emergency services by the citizens of our great city," said Toledo Fire's Public Information Officer, Sterling Rahe in statement. Fire Chief Brian Byrd and Deputy Chief John Kaminski will stay in contact with the Ohio EMA and will consider future requests for Hurricane Florence support.
