The Girard Fire Department is being given more than a quarter of a million dollars by the Federal Government so they can three more people to their force of firefighters and paramedics.
Congressman Tim Ryan announced on Wednesday that department has been awarded a $281,247 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant.
"This grant will allow the Girard Fire Department to ensure they are appropriately staffed to properly serve the 9,5000 residents in the City of Girard,” said Ryan, who sent a letter in support of the grant.
The grant is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security.
