Chester Township residents will be voting May 7 whether to approve a new $2.75 million fire levy. If the township’s 7,575 registered voters approve, the levy would cost property owners $96.25 annually per $100,000 property valuation. “If this levy passes, there is an existing 0.5 mill levy that we would allow to lapse, which we won’t renew," Fire Chief John Wargelin said. "That would actually make the net cost of the (May 7 levy) to homeowners $89.90.
“This is our first new fire levy in 17 years," he said. "We’ve been operating on the same funds, as far as tax dollars goes, for the past 17 years.
