Mayor Donna Kohler has appointed Jason Kukwa as chief of the Midvale Fire Department following the resignation of Michael Woolf from the position on July 24.
Kukwa most recently was assistant chief. The 34-year-old is an eight-year veteran of the department. He has worked with multiple private ambulance companies and was a member of the Sherrodsville Volunteer Fire Department.
Speaking at Monday’s Village Council meeting, Kohler said he would have a 90-day probation period. After that time, his appointment will be subject to review by council.
“Step up for 90 days and show us what you can do,” Council President Deberah Creager said.
“We have applications if it doesn’t work out,” Kohler said.
“I’d like to grow the department back to what it used to be,” Kukwa said after the meeting. “We really want to get the reputation of Midvale back up.”
