City Fire Chief Tom Burgasser said the closure of a small section of Lincoln Way downtown has had minimal impact on emergency service operations. The revitalization project known as streetscape has been underway for nearly a month with Lincoln Way closed between Erie and First streets since July 18. Firefighters are easily able to navigate the disruption thanks to the opening of Fire Station No. 3, Burgasser said. The fire station on Wales Road NE reopened for service April 15 after being closed for nearly seven years. Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry said the budget determined the in-service date. Three new firefighters were hired before the opening of the station, she said. The city wanted to reopen the station at a time when staffing levels and operational costs could be maintained.
