The fire damage to an apartment building in Newton Falls last week was so extensive that the fire chief there says it is hard to determine a cause.
Crews spent hours fighting the blaze at the four-plex on Ravenna Road Friday. Newton Falls Joint Fire District Chief Douglas Theobald said after investigating, the fire is being ruled accidental, undetermined.
“We know the fire began in the living room. We are not exactly sure what caused the fire. There was significant damage to the room and all the contents are destroyed,” Theobald said.
The entire room and floor were destroyed, too.
The building was fully occupied when the fire broke out. No one was hurt but a cat was killed in the fire.
The Red Cross is still assisting six people.
Residents and fire crews received a lot of support from the community. Theobald said every business in town has helped out.
