Around 5:15 pm on Thursday, Youngstown police arrested a male on the 400 block of West Earl Street because he was attempting to light a car on fire and resisting arrest. When officers arrived the saw twenty-seven-year-old Curtis Daye Jr standing next to a pickup truck parked directly in the middle of the street. According to police, Daye lit a rag on fire and attempted to stuff it into the gas tank of the vehicle. Police say while trying to confront Daye he approached police with his right hand near his right hip by his waistband. Police took that as a sign that Daye was armed and the officer proceeded to pull his service weapon out and order Daye to show the officer his hands and get on the ground. Police say Daye refused to get on the ground and yelled "Go ahead and shoot me then!" at police and proceeded to continue walking towards the officer in an aggressive manner.
