After more than 60 years, the village of Millersport is getting a new fire station.
It's a positive step for everyone, according to fire department and village administration officials.
Built in 1956 by the volunteer fire department, the building was steadily outgrown as the township's needs and population grew. A new addition was built onto the firehouse in the 1960s, and even then it hasn't been enough for today's fire department's needs.
MFD Fire Chief Robert Price said this has been something he's been working on for more than 10 years.
"Right now, we just don't have the space that we need to do our job that well. This will be a great thing, once we have the new station," he said.
The current station sits at 12200 Lancaster St. The new one will only be around half a mile south, but Village Administrator Vincent Popo said that will make all the difference.
