Norwalk city council approved the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the city and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local No. 1199 on Tuesday. The union contract includes 2 1/2-percent annual raise and is effective from Jan. 1 of this year through Sept. 30, 2021. Negotiations started in September. “I want to thank everyone who worked on this. I know it’s been a long, long process,” said Councilman Matt Doughty, who represents the fourth ward. Fire Capt. Brett Beers thanked the negotiating team for its hard work. Council, in February, approved the CBA with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. It also included a 2 1/2-percent increase annually for three years starting Jan. 1 of this year and runs through Dec. 31, 2021. Negotiations started in September or October. In other action Tuesday, council learned three Norwalk police officers will be given their oaths of office at 10 a.m. Friday in the conference room at the station. That will bring the agency up to 25 full-time cops.
