Trustees also honored medics Matt DeCosta, Alex Hylton and Drew Simone of the Plain Township fire department. They were awarded the EMS Care Provider of the Year Award last month at the Stark County Firefighters Association annual EMS Week Kickoff Breakfast.
The medic team responded to a call of a 68-year-old man complaining of chest pain. Then the man’s heart stopped. The team resuscitated him, and thanks to their quick thinking, had earlier dispatched a backup team. The man was safely transported to a local emergency department. And was well enough to walk out of the hospital on his own a day later and later visisted the department to thank them.
The team’s quick thinking saved the man’s life, said Fire Chief Charles Shalenberger.
“I couldn’t be prouder of you,” he said.
