Police officer saves children from Girard house fire

Several children are safe after being rescued from a Girard duplex that went up in flames Saturday night. The fire broke out shortly after 7 pm on the corner of Amherst Avenue and Davis Street. Officials say there were six people inside including at least three children, but first responders were able to get them out. Officials tell 21 News that police officer Matt Jameson rescued at least two children and adult from the building. Crews were on scene until after 11 pm, working to put out the flames. Officials tell 21 News the home is a total loss. Officials say the fire started in the back of the duplex and then spread. The Girard Fire Department was assisted by the Liberty Fire Department. The cause is still under investigation.
